The start and finish on both days will be at the lovely Hadeda Creek Bush Camp. Over the two days these trails will take you from the river into the inner ripples of the Vredefort Dome which is situated on the Game Farm, Kommando Nek, with some of the most unique species of game roaming the area.
Route Description - Day 1 (only for the stage race runners): Between 18-20km
The race will start at Hadeda Creek and the first 500 meters of gravel road will allow for the runners to position themselves before they hit the single track for a technical climb up the mountain. Once on top, you will run on the ridge for a while with amazing views over the river and the valley before going down again via a rocky, technical single track. At the bottom the single track will lead you through a gate in the game fence onto the second farm. On this section the trail will take runners through fascinating remains of mysterious, ancient stone structures and challenging forest paths and game tracks. After running in the bottom of the valley for a while, another climb is awaiting that will take you up to an old mine stucture and to the top of the hill on the other side for more amazing views over the valley. Then a long down hill run on rough, rocky jeep track will take you down into the valley again from the other side and back to the gate in the game fence. From here you will run along an easy single track for the last 2km until you get to the gravel road that will finally take you to the end of day one where a crystal clear simming pool is awaiting at Hadeda Creek.
Route Description - Day 2 (stage race runners and single day runners): Between 15-18km
Day 2 will again start at Hadda Creek and you will run on the 500 meter stretch of gravel road before turning in at a gate that will lead you onto a forest path along the banks of the Vaal River. After enjoying some fairly easy running along the river for bout 3km, you will cross the gravel road again to make your way to the lovely hills of the dome. Here you will mostly run on old jeep track, cattle track and single track. Also on the route is an old rehabilitated quarry that runners will climb up to for spectacular views over the surrounding valleys and the river. The trail will then take runners through an area which was an old Boer War camp for the English which can hardly be seen but is still there with an amazing story. Finally the trail will wind down into the valley and take you accross to the mountain on the other side where a last steep climb will test your stamina and fitness before dipping down for the last easy kilometer home.
